Grapes are pretty amazing. Did you know they’re grown on every continent, with the exception of Antarctica? Even more amazing is that they’ve been cultivated since 5000 BC! Not only are these ancient berries delicious, they boast a wide array of exceptional health benefits, and are easily found year round in most grocery stores.

Like other berries - and yes, grapes are classified as a berry fruit - grapes are extremely high in antioxidants, particularly in the skin and seeds. This means that they’re best eaten fresh and whole. Grapes have impressive cardiovascular benefits as well. They’re fantastic for blood pressure and cholesterol regulation, as they work to lower LDL (or “bad”) cholesterol. This is why doctors often recommend a glass of red wine after dinner - it’s the grapes they’re recommending! Grapes are also classified as a low glycemic index food because of the fibre in the skin, meaning that they work hard to balance blood sugar levels.

Grapes are a very versatile fruit, making them easy to add to meal prep and plans. Nutritionists will often recommend that you have a bowl of fresh, washed grapes ready to eat in your fridge. That way, you can reach for them when you’re craving a quick, sweet snack. Grapes are also easy to add to your morning oatmeal or salads. We like to pair our fresh grapes with cheese and apple slices, just like in our Picnic Snack!
